"Hurricane Katrina – Is there anything funny
about it?"
What's
left to say about Hurricane Katrina? A few months of press, a few
months of debate, and constant refute to the government have all
been overplayed and hyped up by the media. I'm not saying that I
do not care about the natural disaster; rather I am tired of people
stretching everything out and twisting around the truth. A hurricane
occurred. As a natural disaster, I think we can all agree that it
was a terrible travesty, but is there anything to say on the 'lighter
side' of this? In other words, is there anything funny about Hurricane
Katrina?
Hear me out: a disaster happened, but isn't all
comedy based around tragedy? In that sense, there has to be something
out there funny about the 'cane, right?
How about the name the hurricane got? I mean,
what's the deal with that? Some scientist out there came up with
the grand idea of naming all tropical storms after women (and some
less important things that I cannot think of right now) and men,
which seems to be one of the worst ideas in the world. How is someone
with that name going to feel about traveling down south? Is New
Orleans going to ban visitors from entering with that name? Is New
Orleans sexist? He world will never know, but with the size of the
hurricane that struck, I would not be surprised.

Isn't there a little humor in the fact that the
most looted object was beef jerky? If I was looting, I'd steal TV's
and cars and whatnot, not beef jerky, regardless of how hungry I
was. I mean, beef jerky is not even something that you can eat a
lot of before getting sick, not to mention that it has almost no
nutritional value. I don't know, maybe it's not that funny, but
to me it just seems ridiculous.
