"Interview with Ryan from The Luxury Sweets"

CW: Alright, we have with us today Ryan O’Heara and uhh, we’re going to ask him a series of questions. Umm, let’s see, question the first: so you came into Falafel today expecting to work…

Ryan: (laughs)

CW: …and it turns out you are not working at all. How do you feel about that?

Ryan: Umm, you know, it’s really frustrating, you know. I feel at Falafel lately there has been a lack of organization in the scheduling and I uh am in a band right now and I have a lot of important things to be doing, and it’s really upsetting to me that they can’t get it right.

CW: That’s an excellent ramble, let’s move onto the band.

Ryan: Alright.

CW: Aparantly the band’s name is The Luxury Sweets?

Ryan: Yes, that’s correct.

CW: Any explanation on that?

Ryan: You know, I wasn’t part of the deciding of this name. When I first started I was uh, I was not feeling it, I was not too into it at all, but it’ll, it’ll grow on you though. It will grow on you.

CW: That’s what she said.

Ryan: (laughs)

CW: Next question, umm. So I hear you guys are playing in the battle of the bands and apparently there’s a trip to Chicago… what do you think your odds of winning are?

Ryan: I feel confident. The um, only thing is that it is a 21 and over show and the majority of the bands playing there are 21 and over, therefore they have the advantage of bringing all their friends, ex boyfriends, girlfriends, and the voting’s done on, on a, on a raise of hands at the end of each band so… you know… I feel we have a really good shot though.

CW: It’s like running for 6th grade president with no friends.

Ryan: (laughs)

CW: It’s just not fair. Alright?

Ryan: Alright.

CW: Uhh… let’s go on now too… let’s bring this one right back to Falafel where we started from, um… so, I walk in here today and I saw some renovations: new icemaker, towel dispensers, some new stuff. How do you feel about these changes?

Ryan: Again with the organizational factor, Sam, Sam tries. He tries really hard…um.

CW: He’s a hard worker.

Ryan: He’s a hard worker I just feel that he doesn’t know what’s best for us and Falafel as a whole.

CW: That’s what I like to hear. Let’s move on to a random question. I’ve been dieing to ask you this. In your opinion, who let the dogs out?

Ryan: (laughs) In my opinion who let the dogs out? You caught me off guard on that one, you really caught me off guard. Give me a couple of seconds.

CW: Any feelings on the “Arian Bird Flu” flying around right now?

Ryan: You know what, you caught me off guard again with that one.

CW: Do you know what the bird flu is?

Ryan: Ah, I’ve heard a little about it. It’s one, it’s, it’s, it’s one of those things uh… I really am not comfortable talking about.

CW: Very well.

Ryan: (laughs)

CW: It’s definitely devastating. Let’s see… let’s go ahead and conclude this interview with one last question. If you could do whatever you wanted at Falafel of Santa Cruz, what would it be and why?

Ryan: You know…I… my goal one day is to be running Falafel of Santa Cruz. I feel that me and Sam really hit it off when we met and I would really like for this business to be passed down to me. And it’s, that’s ultimately what I want to do.

CW: Nice, good answer. Alright, well that concludes our time today with Ryan O’Heara from the Santa Cruz local band The Luxury Sweets.

Ryan: Well thank you very much, honored being here.

CW: You guy’s should all go out and watch one of their shows sometime. As always, this is C.Whyte signing off.
